Completed coursework and graduate thesis pursuant to the requirements of the design option for graduate studies in architecture from 1993-1995.

Graduate Design Thesis - The Language of Complexity

Accepted by the College of Fine and Applied Arts in 1995 this graphic and architectural design project explored the nature of experiential perception of complex phenomena, both spatial and cultural, in an urban context. Completed under the supervision of professors Henry Plummer and Botond Bognar. The jury for the final examination of this thesis included Thom Mayne of Morphosis

Assistantship

Awarded a graduate teaching assistantship for the 1992-1993 academic year.

 

INTERNATIONAL

l'Ecole d'Architecture et Urbanisme UP3, Versailles, France

Completed one academic year of intensive study in Versailles, France as part of the University of Illinois study abroad program. Required coursework included independent study projects which necessitated field studies throughout the European continent, in addition to required degree coursework.

Teaching Assistant for Architecture 171 & 172, sophomore year undergraduate design studio, under professor Paul Armstrong. Individually responsible for daily instruction, grading, and organization of interim reviews for one studio (out of eight total) per semester.

Licensed to Practice Architecture in the State of Illinois Since 1999

Successfully passed all sections of the Architects Registration Examination on the first attempt, by the age of 27.

Competition for Mixed Use Re-Development :: Dublin, Ireland

Senior Design Architect

Leader of design team, responsible for conceptual design, design development and production of graphic presentation materials.

Invited competition required master planning and architectural design for 200,000 sq. meters (approx. 2 millions square feet) of mixed use development on several block along Lansdowne Street in the city of Dublin.

Project includes retail facilities at grade, parking for 1800 cars, office space and three residential towers.

South Loop High Rise Residential Development

500 Unit Multi Family Residential Development :: Chicago, IL

Senior Design Architect

Design team leader responsible for working directly with the client, presenting design development ideas and incorporating client feedback into the architectural plans.

Design incorporates two uniquely shaped residential towers surrounded by townhomes in a dense urban area of Chicago.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City Master Plan

Urban Master Plan :: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emerates

Senior Design Architect

Worked directly with the client to develop comprehensive planning guidelines and a master plan for 298 residential parcels.

Each site incorporates a mixed use high rise tower between 15 and 25 stories tall, with varied uses occurring at the base as determined by the design team.

Three separate parcels with and aggregate expected density of 50,000 inhabitants within the context of a larger master plan developed for 500,000 inhabitants.

Schematic Design For 2 Residential High Rise Towers :: Costa Mesa, California

Design Architect

Responsible, with design Principal Scott Sarver, for schematic architectural design, unit matrix planning, exterior appearance and area calculations.

Produced architectural renderings and graphics and coordinated production of presentation materials used by the client for negotiations regarding development entitlements with the City.

Responsible for the production and coordination of all 3D computer modeling and rendering.

Complete project cosists of two towers at 22 and 20 floors on an 'L' shaped site.

Asan Baebang Mixed Use Complex - Design Competition

Competition For a New Retail and Residential Precinct :: Asan, South Korea

Design Architect - Member of Design Team

Responsible, with design team, for schematic site design and master planning as well as building configuration and building massing with concentration on the retail environment that comprised the "podium" of the complex.

Project team included Mooyoung Architects and Engineers who who worked at the Chicago offices of D+P during the project.

The total site consisted of four undeveloped blocks for a planned city combined into one large 'superblock" immediately adjacent to a high speed rail line connecting Asan to Seoul to the North and Pusan to the South.

Total space requirements totaled 287,555 sqare meters of building area (approximately 3.2 million square feet) which included five high rise residential towers, an office building, a deparment store, a shopping mall and entertainment spaces.

Masterplan for 2.6 Million Square Foot Mixed Use Residential Development :: Chicago, IL

Design Architect - Member of Design Team

Responsible, with design team, for master planning, schematic design and preparation of presentation materials for City of Chicago approval.

Complete plan consists of 3 high rise residential buildings on a 9 story "podium" of retail facilities with parking above.

Phase one includes a steel structured residential tower supoorted over an existing parking facility on a 6 foot thick structural concrete mat.

Responsible, with project team, for design development and contract documents with a specific focus on exterior systems.

31 story tower with 281 Residential units represents Phase 1 of 3.

Lower 8 floors include adaptive re-use of an existing parking structure with 42 new loft style condominiums planned for the South portion of the structure.

Design Architect - Member of Design Team

Responsible, with design team, for schematic design of the building exterior, materials and massing as well as production of design presentation materials for this high rise condominium.

Competition For a 630 Unit New Residential and Retail Development :: South Korea

Design Architect - Member of Winning Design Team

Responsible, with design team, for schematic site design, building configuration and unit distribution, building massing, exterior materials and articulation and production of digital computer renderings and presentation materials for this development in South Korea.

Succeeded in meeting the aggressive criteria for number of units while still adhering to strict residential zoning requirements, which were applied for the first time on this project to a mixed use development.

Responsible for design development of an 850 foot long wall to cover the podium of the parking garages upon which five of the residential towers sit.

The "streetwall" design will first be realized as a portion of The Regatta and the design will be completed as subsequent buildings are are built.

Assisted with schematic design of facility and in master planning activities for the new "computing quad" in collaboration with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, architects of the adjacent Seibel Center.
